About The Tax University

The Tax University is an education and training company founded to serve the nation’s independent tax business community. We are a subsidiary of Tax Business Management, Inc. (TBM). Although you may have never heard of us before coming to this website, we have a long history in the tax preparation industry. TBM has two affiliated companies, a successful retail tax services division, PRO-TAX; and a tax business franchise unit, PRO-TAX USA.

Our retail services division started as a single location in Virginia in the early 1970s and including franchisees has grown to 31 locations in six states. TBM was founded in 2004 to market our innovative back-end software: “The Auto-Tax-Manager” (ATM). But after providing ATM to independent tax businesses around the country, we received numerous requests for more products and services. TBM has since expanded its services beyond software to assist the independent market in need of consulting, education, and related topics.

The Tax University was born out of the IRS’s new initiative to license all paid preparers. We had been investing significant resources in tax education for many years. But recently we began receiving requests to share our knowledge and experience with those who were very concerned about the new IRS requirements.

The Tax University has a unique advantage over other educational firms because of our affiliated companies. Instead of just theoretically developing training materials we are able to “test” our product in “real life” by teaching our program to hundreds of students in classrooms every year.
